Digital asset management for more possibilities
huGO+MEDIA PRODUCTION WITH MORE POSSIBILITIES
huGO+ was explicitly developed for the professional planning, production and distribution of high-quality publications.
Its primary objective is to prepare a large number of different information modules (e.g. texts, images and audio-visual elements) and to optimally adapt them to the respective output channel (e.g. mobile devices, desktop, print).
Leading publishers process thousands of pieces of information day by day with huGO+ in order to produce articles, image sequences, e-papers or printed editions of their titles.
huGO+ facilitates the efficient creation and use of your “digital assets” – which by using huGO+ become even more valuable since they are more easily traceable and thus reusable.
huGO+ accelerates the search for content and offers your editors a collaborative application environment: from the editing tool to the royalty statement of the content created.
Once created, articles and editions are archived with huGO+ and ‘where-used’ lists are created for the incorporated content elements.
At the center of huGO+, the huGO content center is the central storage for all content and metadata. Attached to it are six function modules with content access.
CASE STUDY: huGO+IN USE AT GRUNER+JAHR
As a high-quality publisher of print magazines in numerous subject areas, Gruner+Jahr is excellently positioned in the international magazine market. However, even the success of the Hamburg-based publishing house does not make it immune to the changes in media consumption, which have been caused by digitalization and mobile devices entering the market.
G+J responds to the decreasing circulation of existing titles with new and rejuvenated items, designed to meet the needs of the readers in a more differentiated manner. As a valuable “source of raw material” for this purpose, the publisher has various content building blocks, but these are spread over different databases that do not work together harmoniously. In addition, missing metadata impede the efficient multiple use of these building blocks.
Encouraged by the successful use of huGO, the publishing group has now extended the system to “huGO+” with some important new modules, which resulted in a more effective connection between the data management and production workflow. Enhanced metadata eases the search for relevant content, modules for topic and page planning automatically interlink the metadata with the subsequent production steps and finished articles are structurally archived. huGO+ also collects the usage rights and generates royalty statements for the editors along the way.
However, because each system can only be effective when its users use it sensibly, G+J has brought its employees “on board” early on. PowerPoint presentations, posters and even a video introduction have advertised the advantages of the new huGO+ system – the result of this “double strategy” is high acceptance and rapid cost optimization.

How it works: huGO+
With the huGO+ interface the focus is on transparency and quick locating and selection of contents.
The huGO+ dashboard presents individual information customized to the needs of the user.
In order to ensure as much working space as possible, the search functions are reduced to the “search slot” at the top of the screen and tools can be selected from the left-hand toolbar.
An essential feature of huGO+ is the faceted representation of the search results in several dimensions. Thus, quick filtering and selection are possible. The user is only displayed assets for which he / she has permission.
Each user can create individual theme maps (collections) and then easily transfer the elements of the collections into the content creation.
huGO | E-PAPER
E-paper – created by Sternwald with huGO+ – is more than a mere continuation of the printed newspaper in the digital world. The appearance remains familiar; the value for the reader grows enormously: search, interaction, linking and individualization are just some of the functions that open up the e-paper to completely new dimensions of providing information. Easy and comfortable handling with tablet or e-reader is an bonus.
The first huGO e-paper was produced as early as 2004, the matching e-paper apps for iOS and Android followed in 2009 and since 2013 there has been e-paper in HTML5 with the huGO digital publishing components.
Over 80 different daily and weekly newspapers are created with huGO e-paper installations, additionally daily the same number of related regional editions, magazines and publisher supplements.
The support team at Sternwald monitors and, on request, services the production systems around the clock. In the process we also hold the upstream or downstream process sections in view.
huGO e-paper is one of the most modern and comprehensive solutions on the market, which is specifically customized to the needs and desires of the readers and advertising customers, as well as the publishers themselves.
